The consequences of improper AC refilling
Vehicle AC repair is quite expensive. Drivers who haven’t faced this problem yet, should know that by providing timely maintenance to their air conditioners they insure themselves against further big problems and heavy expenses.
Diagnostics of failures
Vehicle AC has a complex construction. AC diagnostics should be entrusted to technical experts rather than to service centers that don’t specialize in diagnostics and repair of climate systems, and therefore cannot provide this service in full, or it is totally unavailable.
Most common failures:
- The majority of AC failures are caused by freon leak. The main symptom of the damage is a detectible fault in AC case air-tightness with visible oil flow marks. Most often the problems are caused by condenser failure as this unit sustains a heavy load. Engine vibration often leads to wearing down of aluminum pipelines and rubber hoses. When freon drips out, moisture and air begin to fill the system. They are exactly moisture and air that cause a serious damage to the air conditioner, and with no timely repair provided, finally ruin it.
- AC compressor failure. Failures can be caused by hydraulic impact, teflon gaskets wear-out, exhaustion of a tilted bar, protruding burrs on the cylinders owing to contamination on the inside of the compressor. Oil dissolves in freon during the system operation, and then freon transports oil through the system. That’s why freon shortage results in poor oiling of the system. Unfixed damages will lead to the compressor malfunction down the line.
- Failure of AC other units and elements: thermostatic expansion valve (TEV), electromagnetic clutch, dual-pressure controller, electromagnetic valve. When electromagnetic clutch is damaged, the whole compressor fails to operate. To detect circulation failure, connect the manometer to the filling hose to make sure that there is freon in the system, and then switch the air conditioner on. Corrosion and dust blocking the TEV opening are the most common damaging factors. Low-quality repair and system poor air-tightness can become the cause of contamination.
What equipment is used for diagnostics and repair of vehicle air conditioners?
First of all, it is necessary to understand what equipment is used to refill the system with freon. The use of professional equipment secures from violation of refilling techniques. Special equipment is needed either for quality diagnostics and maintenance of vehicle air conditioners.
